What is PNG and when is it useful?

PNG is a lossless format that can preserve transparency. It is often useful for screenshots, interface graphics and illustrations.

Converting a file changes its encoding. It does not recreate detail that was already lost in the source image. For an important image, keep the original and compare the converted preview before deleting anything.

How to convert PNG to WebP

  1. Select one or more PNG images, or drag a batch into the upload area.
  2. Confirm the output format is WebP and adjust quality when the browser supports that control.
  3. Process the files and compare the previews with the originals.
  4. Download the files individually or together as a ZIP.

Quality and file size

A format conversion can make a file larger or smaller depending on the source, dimensions and encoding settings. If the output is larger than expected, compare another format or reduce dimensions before compressing. If visual quality matters more than size, keep a higher-quality output and retain the original.

Privacy and browser processing

Pixora's core conversion workflow is designed to process images in your browser rather than sending the selected image to a Pixora image-processing server. Browser support varies by format and device, so always review the generated file before using it in an important workflow.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Converting repeatedly between lossy formats, which can accumulate quality loss.
  • Assuming a conversion will reduce file size. The output format and image content determine the result.
  • Deleting the source before checking transparency, sharp edges, text and fine detail in the output.
  • Choosing a format without checking what the destination platform actually accepts.
