What is JPG and when is it useful?
JPG is widely supported and is commonly used for photographs. It uses lossy compression and does not preserve transparency.
Converting a file changes its encoding. It does not recreate detail that was already lost in the source image. For an important image, keep the original and compare the converted preview before deleting anything.
