Why convert JPG to PNG?
PNG uses lossless encoding and can preserve transparency, making it useful for graphics, screenshots and workflows that require PNG. However, converting a JPG to PNG does not restore image detail lost during the original JPG compression, and it cannot invent transparency that was never present.

Expect the file to become larger sometimes

Transparency is not recovered
A JPG file has no transparency channel. If a source was already exported against a white background, converting it to PNG simply stores that white background in a lossless PNG file.
