Pixel dimensions, image detail, color information, format and encoding settings all affect file size. A very large image can remain heavy even when its quality setting is reasonable.
A practical compression workflow
- Resize the image if its pixel dimensions are much larger than the final display size.
- Choose a format appropriate for the destination.
- Start with moderate quality and compare the preview.
- Use a target size when a form or platform has a file-size limit.
Target sizes
Pixora includes target-size workflows for 100KB, 200KB and 500KB. These are best-effort goals rather than guarantees of an exact byte count.
Quality matters
The smallest file is not automatically the best file. Check fine details, text, faces and edges before replacing the original.
